Class 4 learning this week

Image
The children have come back into class this week ready and raring to go! We’ve started some exciting new units across all our learning, and the children have been using their prior knowledge to build great connections already. In Science , we are learning about animals and conservation – a topic close to the children’s hearts, as they are all certainly animal lovers! In Geography , we have begun exploring volcanoes . We started by learning about the four layers of the Earth, including their names and characteristics. The children worked so hard on this task, and their work was beautifully presented. In English , we have been learning about explanation texts and their key features. The children have been busy imagining their own inventions and will soon be writing introductions and explanations to share with their readers. Next week’s spellings will be posted on the blog today and will be tested next Friday in class. A reminder that all children have yellow reading record books ...

A busy first week back in Class 2!

Image
We have had a lovely first week back after the half term. We have been learning to write descriptively in English; we looked at a beautiful landscape picture and then encouraged the children to talk about what they could see. The children then wrote some creative sentences with lots of describing words. In PE, we have continued our gymnastics unit. The children practised their balances with crab walks, camel walks and bunny hops. They had a great time and worked hard! In Spanish, we have started a new unit about animals that live in the jungle. The children learned the Spanish word for monkey (el mono) and created pictures to help them remember.  We have also introduced the children to our nativity, 'Little Angel Gets Her Wings'. The children were sent home with a piece of paper explaining their role in the play and costume requirements. If your child has lines to say in the play, they will have also brought a script home. We would be so grateful if the children could practi...

Forest School's Autumn Adventures 🍂

Image
There was a beautiful bed of autumn leaves waiting for us in Forest School this week! The children were full of energy and excitement as they explored and played among the colours of the season. We had a wonderful time building forts using sticks, pallets, and tarps. Some of the children invented a fantastic farm game, piling up mud to make their “manure” and using the wheelbarrows to transport it around—working together beautifully as a team. Others got creative, pressing leaves into clay to make lovely nature patterns, while a few enjoyed experimenting with the tarps on our little hill area—turning them into imaginative play spaces. It was fantastic to have everyone back in Forest School after the break, and the children seemed to love every minute of it!

We are all special! Reception weekly blog

Reception Class Blog – This Week’s Learning What a wonderful and busy week we’ve had in Reception! The children have been engaged, curious, and full of enthusiasm as we explored new learning and revisited familiar ideas across all areas of the curriculum. Phonics This week, we recapped all of our Level 2 sounds and revisited the tricky words I, no, go, to, and the . The children have been practising recognising these sounds in words and using them in their early reading and writing. We also focused on correct letter formation as part of our handwriting sessions — everyone is working hard on writing the Level 2 sounds neatly and confidently. Literacy Our book focus this week was on special people . We read The Must-Have Mum , Me and My Sister , and My Grandpa , and talked about what makes the people in our lives special to us. The children then had the chance to create their very own books all about someone who is special to them — they were so proud to share their writing and il...

Welcome to Rev Jo!

Image
Welcome to Rev Jo! Miss Reece and I had the great pleasure of attending Reverend Jo’s ordination at St John the Baptist Church in Layer de la Haye on Tuesday evening. It was a truly special and memorable occasion, filled with warmth, joy, and community spirit as we welcomed her into her new role. The following day, our Year 6 pupils and members of the Holy Council had the wonderful opportunity to introduce themselves and share a little about our school with Reverend Jo. They spoke beautifully and represented Darcy School with pride. We are very much looking forward to officially welcoming Reverend Jo to our whole school community during our upcoming Remembrance Service (for pupils only) on Tuesday 11th November, where she will join us for this important and reflective occasion. Mrs Campbell 💫
