Happy New Year Class 4!

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to Class 4 this week. Everyone has settled in really well and we have spent time getting back into our classroom routines. We are starting new units in many of our subjects this term. In English , we have begun learning about newspaper reports and are exploring their style and key features before embarking on writing our own newspaper reports. In Science , we are learning about changes of materials, with lots of exciting experiments planned. In History , we have started learning about life in Ancient Rome and why the Romans invaded Great Britain. We have also begun a new unit in RE about Hinduism. The children were able to recall many facts and stories from their previous learning, which was wonderful to hear. We look forward to seeing many of you at our class assembly on Wednesday 21st January , where the children will be able to share what they learned last term. Please note that our PE days are Tuesday (indoor) and Thursday (outd...

Welcome back, Class 2!

We are so happy to be back for the new year and to see all the children ready to learn again. This week, we started a brand-new book, the traditional story of Rapunzel . The children discovered that this is a very old tale that was told for generations in Germany before the Brothers Grimm wrote it down in a book. We talked about how stories can change as they are retold over time, which led to some great discussions and ideas. Next week, we are excited to read a modern version of Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin and compare the two. In maths, we have been learning about related facts. The children found that while 54 + 2 might feel tricky, using the related fact of 4 + 2 helps us find the answer more easily. We finished our rainy Friday with colour mixing in art. The children mixed primary colours to make secondary colours and experimented by adding white or black to create different shades. Have a lovely weekend.

Class 5 2026 - Welcome Back! Welcome to 2026! Class 5 have returned refreshed and ready to learn after a wonderful Christmas break. We have gone straight back into our learning and have been working hard across the curriculum. In maths, we have been revising key skills, recapping past learning and finding angles. During reading lessons, we have been revisiting past papers and practising comprehension skills. Our history lessons have focused on fascinating Egyptian hieroglyphics, while in PE we have been learning about body shapes and how to use them effectively in movement. It has been a busy but brilliant start to the new year! Maths In maths, we enjoyed a practical lesson finding different types of angles around the classroom. We spotted right, acute, obtuse and reflex angles on everyday objects. This hands-on activity helped us develop our understanding and made learning engaging and fun for everyone. PE In PE, we explored shape categories including animals, household objects ...

Forest School fun with Class 3

Image
It was wonderful to begin Class 3’s Forest School sessions this week, and the children were so excited to be there! Even with the chilly weather, they were enthusiastic and keen to get stuck in. Straight away, the children asked to whittle willow from our tree, put up the hammock, and light a fire. We did indeed do all of these things, and the children also built a brilliant den using the tarpaulin, dug in the soil to find clay, and made friendship bracelets. We were so pleased to see how the children persevered with activities such as whittling and fire lighting. They were calm, patient, and supportive of themselves and each other throughout the session. The fire lighting had mixed results, but it provided a perfect example of how, in Forest School, we place importance on the process rather than the end product. Many children had a go at lighting the fire, and it was not easy, so well done to them all for their perseverance and resilience. We are looking forward to next week already!
