Class 2's weekly blog

Image
We have had a wonderful week in class! In English, we have continued our instruction writing all about how to wash a lion. The children have written some fantastic commands and really showed off their wonderful imaginations. We loved hearing all of their creative ideas! In Maths, we have been learning about fractions. The children have worked extremely hard to understand halves, quarters and thirds, and they have shown great perseverance during our learning. In PSHE, we have been learning about good hygiene and how to help stop coughs and colds from spreading. The children learned that it is important to sneeze into a tissue or their elbow, avoid touching their face, and use soap when washing their hands. To help remember these important hygiene tips, the children created some brilliant posters! Well done to everyone for another fantastic week of learning! We are looking forward to a great trip to Barleylands on Monday.

A busy week in Class 4

Image
This week has been slightly different for us as we supported Year 6 during their SATs. We were very calm and quiet and adapted to a few changes in our usual routines. On Wednesday, we enjoyed a whole-school Forest School session. Everyone was busy building and working hard on a variety of projects. The children played in the mud kitchen, built dens, explored the woodland area. In English, we have started our new unit where we will be writing non-fiction reports all about play. This links well with our History topic on how children’s leisure time has changed over the years. The children have enjoyed discussing different types of play, how play makes them feel, and the many benefits of playing. We have also been learning about healthy lifestyles in PSHE, followed by a fun whole-school PE session led by Joe Wicks ! In Science, we investigated friction and discussed whether it can be an advantage or disadvantage in different situations. Well done to all of the children for being so sup...

Reception Weekly Learning Blog This week in Reception we have been very busy with lots of exciting learning across all areas of the curriculum! English In handwriting, we practised our tricky words: was, my, and you . The children worked hard on forming their letters correctly and taking care with their handwriting. In writing, we learned about King Charles III and his love for bees. The children also enjoyed describing a picture from the story of Goldilocks. We focused on writing dictated sentences, sounding out words using the sounds we know, and forming our letters carefully. In reading, the children took part in guided reading sessions and enjoyed sharing and discussing books together. Maths In maths, we explored measures and made comparisons between the length and height of different objects. We also used number tracks from 1–10 to practise making jumps along the track. The children enjoyed playing a track game where they took turns, rolled a dice, and moved the correct ...

Forest School adventures for Year 1

Image
Today we had such a lovely afternoon at Forest School, and we were very lucky with the weather as we thought we might get rained off! Instead, the sun shone and we enjoyed some much-needed freedom and time outdoors. The children made the most of the area, climbing trees, building dens, making mud creations, digging, and playing with bows and arrows that they made from willow. Our parent helper, Liz, brought along a gorgeous selection of blossom, mint, and willow. The children used these beautiful natural materials to make headbands and all sorts of imaginative creations. There was so much play, creativity, and imagination during Forest School today — it was wonderful to see. Well done to all of the children!

Class 3 Life Cycles

Image
In Science, Class 3 have been learning all about life cycles. Today, they particularly enjoyed exploring the life cycle of a butterfly and discovering the amazing changes that take place as it grows. The children learned that a butterfly starts its life as an egg. Once the egg hatches, a caterpillar emerges and begins eating lots of food to help it grow bigger and stronger—just like in the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar . After this stage, the caterpillar transforms into a chrysalis (pupa), where an incredible process called metamorphosis takes place. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar changes completely before finally emerging as a beautiful butterfly. The class were fascinated by each stage of the butterfly’s journey and enjoyed discussing how living things grow and change over time. Well done Class 3!
