Class 2's weekly blog

Image
Last week, we started an exciting experiment with seeds. We planted them in three different pots: one without soil, one without water, and one without sunlight. The children were very eager to see what would happen and couldn’t wait to check the results this week! We discovered some really interesting things. The seeds without soil had started to grow, but they couldn’t grow very much without nutrients from the soil. The plant without sunlight had grown too, but it hadn’t turned green because it couldn’t get energy from the sun. Finally, the plant without water hadn’t grown at all. The children were delighted to see that their predictions were correct! In Maths, the children have continued their learning about money, and they are all doing so well. In English, they finished their writing about a family event, and I have been so impressed with what they have achieved. Well done, everyone!

Class 4's week of learning

This week, we have further developed our persuasive letter writing skills, deciding on causes and topics that we could write about. We have continued to take inspiration from Malala and Greta Thunberg to support our learning. In history, we are really enjoying learning about the changes in children’s lives throughout time. This week, we explored the life and work of Lord Shaftesbury and the impact he had on improving the lives of children. In PSHE, we discussed our talents and what makes each of us unique. We talked about how talents are developed through hard work and practice, and celebrated what makes us amazing individuals. In computing, we have been learning about data collection and sensors. We collected our own data on noise levels around the school over a period of time and are looking forward to recording and analysing this data further. In science, we moved on to learning about water resistance. We carried out an experiment to test how different shapes of Blu Tack affecte...

Mastering Maths in reception

Reception Class Weekly Blog We’ve had a fantastic week in Reception, making the most of the beautiful sunshine with lots of outdoor learning! The children have especially enjoyed water play, exploring the mud kitchen, digging area, obstacle course, and riding bikes. These activities are not only fun but also help to develop important gross motor skills. In English , we read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk . The children loved retelling the story and even created their own books. We focused on front covers, titles, characters, settings, and key events. The children also explored the use of speech by drawing Jack and adding speech bubbles. We discussed the structure of a story, thinking carefully about the beginning, middle, and end. Guided reading sessions continued in small groups, helping to build confidence and fluency. We also continued practising name writing and worked on forming numerals 4, 5, 6, and 7 correctly. In Maths , we explored height by comparing objects and bu...

Forest School adventures for Year 1

Image
It was a pleasure to have Year 1 at Forest School this afternoon. The sun was shining, and the wind had calmed down after yesterday, making it a lovely session to be outdoors. The children were especially keen to climb today, with many using their balancing skills and strength to climb trees. It was wonderful to see them pushing themselves and showing such determination. We also set up a rope walk, and the children impressed us with their confidence as they carefully made their way along. It was particularly lovely to see them supporting and encouraging one another to maintain their balance. The children enjoyed making elder bead necklaces and worked incredibly hard on their creations. Once again, they shared their knowledge and helped each other to complete their necklaces, showing great teamwork and kindness. Hot dogs were a lovely treat around the fire. Thank you to the parents who came to support and provide the children with a lovely time outside.
