Forest School fun for Year 5

Image
Year 5 returned to Forest School today, full of energy, eager to get back to their builds and creations. They got straight to work moving pallets, digging holes, stringing ropes, and tying knots – they were extremely busy throughout the session! We enjoyed a fire again today. The children made their own pizza wraps, choosing their toppings and patiently waiting by the fire as they cooked. Everyone enjoyed their outdoor snack! Some of the children came with clear ideas of what they wanted to create using sticks and natural materials. They confidently asked for different tools and support when needed. It was fantastic to see them bringing their own ideas to life and applying the skills they have been developing to create their own unique inventions. The children are learning to work together, solve problems, and connect with the natural environment in meaningful ways 🌿πŸ”₯

Class 2's weekly blog

Image
Last week, we started an exciting experiment with seeds. We planted them in three different pots: one without soil, one without water, and one without sunlight. The children were very eager to see what would happen and couldn’t wait to check the results this week! We discovered some really interesting things. The seeds without soil had started to grow, but they couldn’t grow very much without nutrients from the soil. The plant without sunlight had grown too, but it hadn’t turned green because it couldn’t get energy from the sun. Finally, the plant without water hadn’t grown at all. The children were delighted to see that their predictions were correct! In Maths, the children have continued their learning about money, and they are all doing so well. In English, they finished their writing about a family event, and I have been so impressed with what they have achieved. Well done, everyone!

Class 4's week of learning

This week, we have further developed our persuasive letter writing skills, deciding on causes and topics that we could write about. We have continued to take inspiration from Malala and Greta Thunberg to support our learning. In history, we are really enjoying learning about the changes in children’s lives throughout time. This week, we explored the life and work of Lord Shaftesbury and the impact he had on improving the lives of children. In PSHE, we discussed our talents and what makes each of us unique. We talked about how talents are developed through hard work and practice, and celebrated what makes us amazing individuals. In computing, we have been learning about data collection and sensors. We collected our own data on noise levels around the school over a period of time and are looking forward to recording and analysing this data further. In science, we moved on to learning about water resistance. We carried out an experiment to test how different shapes of Blu Tack affecte...

Reception Class Weekly Blog We’ve had a fantastic week in Reception, making the most of the beautiful sunshine with lots of outdoor learning! The children have especially enjoyed water play, exploring the mud kitchen, digging area, obstacle course, and riding bikes. These activities are not only fun but also help to develop important gross motor skills. In English , we read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk . The children loved retelling the story and even created their own books. We focused on front covers, titles, characters, settings, and key events. The children also explored the use of speech by drawing Jack and adding speech bubbles. We discussed the structure of a story, thinking carefully about the beginning, middle, and end. Guided reading sessions continued in small groups, helping to build confidence and fluency. We also continued practising name writing and worked on forming numerals 4, 5, 6, and 7 correctly.
