Chelmsford Cathedral - Year 6 Leavers Service

Image
Chelmsford Cathedral - Year 6 Leavers Service Year 6 attended the Diocese of Chelmsford Year 6 Leavers’ Service at Chelmsford Cathedral. It was a memorable and inspiring occasion, bringing together pupils from across the diocese to celebrate the end of their primary school journey and look ahead to the future. Throughout the service, the children sang uplifting songs, listened to readings, and shared blessings. They also took part in four engaging activities designed to encourage reflection and hope. Pupils created name tags featuring a “wondering question” about Jesus, giving them the opportunity to think deeply about faith and spirituality. They then made logs expressing how they were feeling as they prepare to leave primary school. Another activity involved drawing a thank you to God, helping pupils reflect on the many blessings in their lives. Finally, children wrote messages on leaves about gratitude, inspiration and support, before planting seeds that represented both personal ho...

Class 3 Scientific Enquiry

Image
This half term, Class 3's science focus is Scientific Enquiry, where the children are developing their skills in asking questions, making predictions, carrying out investigations, and finding results. This afternoon, the children enjoyed learning about the different stages of a scientific investigation. They explored how to ask effective scientific questions, discussed what it means to make a prediction, and learnt about variables and why it is important to keep an investigation fair. The children were also introduced to solar ovens and learnt how they use the Sun's energy to heat up food and other items. They were fascinated by how solar ovens work and enjoyed discussing the features that might make them effective. Next week, the children will be making their own solar ovens and investigating how effective they are. They are already looking forward to putting their scientific enquiry skills into practice through this exciting hands-on project. To support this activity, we wou...

Reception's Butterfly Bonanza

Image
Reception Weekly Learning Blog What an exciting and memorable week we have had in Reception! Our highlight of the week was releasing our beautiful butterflies. The children have loved observing the incredible life cycle from caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly. We linked our learning to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the children completed their own independent writing, sharing what they had learned about our class caterpillars and butterflies. In our topic work, we began thinking about Planet Earth and how we can look after our world. Linked to our Science learning, we explored our senses and discussed what we can see, hear and smell in the environment around us. The children enjoyed sharing their observations and ideas about caring for our planet. In Handwriting , we continued practising letter formation and focused on spelling tricky words. During Phonics , we worked on blending and segmenting words and recapped the digraphs and trigraphs we have learned so fa...

Welcome back Class 4

It has been wonderful to welcome the children back this week as we settle back into our routines and get ready for an exciting half term ahead. We have already begun several new units of learning, including decimals in Maths, Celebrating Life Events in RE, and Architecture in DT. Next week, we will introduce the rest of our new topics and begin exploring them in more detail. In English, the children are currently drafting their non-chronological reports about Playtime at D'Arcy. The work produced so far has been detailed, ambitious, and a pleasure to read. We are looking forward to seeing the finished reports. We are also working hard to prepare for our KS2 production of Mary Poppins . The children have been showing great enthusiasm during rehearsals, and we are excited to see the performance come together. Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to practise their lines at home. Thank you for your ongoing support—we cannot wait to share all of the children's h...

Forest School fun for Years 2 and 6

Image
We were delighted to welcome our Year 2 and Year 6 to their first Forest School session together. Despite the wet weather, the children showed fantastic resilience and enthusiasm.  The children were excited to explore and investigate the Forest School area and all were keen to get started on various tasks and activities.  One popular activity was shelter building. Working together, the children demonstrated excellent cooperation and communication skills as they designed and constructed shelters using pallets, tarpaulins, sticks, and ropes. They carefully considered how to make their shelters strong and weatherproof, testing ideas and solving problems together along the way. The mud kitchen was also a popular area throughout the session. It was wonderful to see their creativity flourish as they worked together, shared resources, and developed their own ideas through play. Another creative activity involved weaving beautiful crowns from willow. The children carefully decorated t...

Class 2's weekly blog

This week in Class 2, we have had a lovely week of learning and fun! We started reading a new book called Here I Am . The children were fascinated by it because it is a book with no words! The story is told entirely through pictures and follows a young boy who moves with his family from Busan in Korea to live in America. We explored how the boy might be feeling as he experiences a new country, makes new friends, and discovers different foods and sounds. The children enjoyed discussing the story and interpreting the illustrations, and they will be using the book as inspiration for their writing next week. In Maths, we have begun learning about time. This week, we focused on the days of the week and the months of the year. To prepare for our learning next week, when we will start telling the time, the children had great fun making their very own clocks. They were very proud of their creations and are excited to use them in future lessons. We finished the week with a fantastic PE les...
