Class 2's weekly blog.

We have had an exciting week in Class 2! In Science, we began our new topic on materials. We started by learning about strong materials such as wood and metal and discovered how these materials are used to build bridges. The children learned that triangles are often used in bridge construction because they help make structures stronger and more stable. The children built their own mini bridges using lolly sticks and masking tape. The children worked brilliantly, showing great teamwork and creativity. Once the bridges were complete, it was time for the big test! We carefully tested the strength of each bridge to see how much weight it could hold. While a few bridges sadly collapsed, most stayed strong and impressed us with their durability. It was a fantastic afternoon full of excitement, problem-solving, and lots of cheering! In Maths, we have continued learning to tell the time. The children have worked incredibly hard and are becoming much more confident reading clocks and unde...

Class 4's learning

This week, Class 4 have been publishing their non-chronological reports about play. The children have worked incredibly hard and have taken great pride in presenting their work beautifully. We have also been reading and discussing If by Rudyard Kipling. The children have engaged thoughtfully with the poem and have offered insightful comments about its meanings and themes. It has been wonderful to hear their ideas and interpretations. In Geography, we learned about food miles and how food products are transported around the world. We discussed the environmental impact of food production and considered ways we can make more sustainable choices. In Science, we have begun our new topic on sound. We have made a fantastic start by learning how sound is heard and exploring the different parts of the ear. We are also continuing to work hard on our lines for the KS2 production. Please keep encouraging your child to practise at home. Thank you for your continued support.

This Week in Reception

This Week in Reception We have had another busy and exciting week in Reception! In Maths, we have been revisiting our learning from the Mastering Number programme. The children have been exploring the different ways numbers can be made and how numbers can be split into parts and combined to make a whole. We practised finding the "numbers within" numbers up to 10, identifying hidden amounts and recalling doubles facts, such as 5 + 5 = 10. The children showed great mathematical thinking as they explained their ideas and demonstrated their understanding of number relationships. In Shape, Space and Measure, we explored 3D shapes. The children enjoyed investigating cubes, cuboids, cylinders, cones and spheres, talking about their properties and spotting them in the world around us. In Geography, we learned about maps and why they are useful. The children had lots of fun using their map-reading skills during a game of Pirate Map Bingo, following clues and identifying different fe...

Gardening club: Children planted seeds to create a raised bed of flowers which would attract bees and other important insects. Art club: Children explored the work of Piet Mondrian and learned about his distinctive style using straight lines, geometric shapes, and primary colours. They created their own artworks inspired by Mondrian, carefully using black lines and blocks of red, blue, and yellow to produce bold and balanced designs. Drama club: The children ran through the songs and show numbers from the schools upcoming musical production of Mary Poppins. Sports club: Children took part in a variety of fun tag games that encouraged teamwork, agility, and quick reactions. They practised running, dodging, and changing direction while following simple rules and working cooperatively with others.

Chelmsford Cathedral - Year 6 Leavers Service Year 6 attended the Diocese of Chelmsford Year 6 Leavers’ Service at Chelmsford Cathedral. It was a memorable and inspiring occasion, bringing together pupils from across the diocese to celebrate the end of their primary school journey and look ahead to the future. Throughout the service, the children sang uplifting songs, listened to readings, and shared blessings. They also took part in four engaging activities designed to encourage reflection and hope. Pupils created name tags featuring a “wondering question” about Jesus, giving them the opportunity to think deeply about faith and spirituality. They then made logs expressing how they were feeling as they prepare to leave primary school. Another activity involved drawing a thank you to God, helping pupils reflect on the many blessings in their lives. Finally, children wrote messages on leaves about gratitude, inspiration and support, before planting seeds that represented both personal ho...
