Year 4 Forest School

Image
Year 4 Forest School Fun This afternoon Year 4 began by experimenting with camouflaging their hands in the Forest School area and we talked about why animals might need to be camouflaged in the wild.  The children then had a great time with their chosen activities whilst a small group lit and kept the fire going ready for marshmallow toasting. This group learnt about how to build the fire to draw the flames upwards and had a go at blowing it at the base of the fire to help new sticks catch alight. Meanwhile, some children set to work making a den using their teamwork and problem solving skills. There was also sawing and drilling to make reindeer decorations out of a slice of hazel and lots of trial and error to make a bow and arrow with the right sort of stick (just bendy enough!) Once the fire was ready, the children all came one at a time to toast their marshmallow and sandwich it between two chocolate digestives to make a smore. We talked about what we had learnt this aft...

Class 4 Homework Spellings Each week Class 4 will have a new set of 10 spellings that will be posted on the blog. Please support your child with learning these over the week. Thank you. This week's spelling pattern is word families based on common words, showing how words are related in form and meaning. Maths Each week there will be Maths homework assigned to the children on Maths.co.uk. The pupils have all received their log in details, but if there are any problems or your child has lost their log in details please speak to Miss Barber. These are short and focused quizzes to support the pupils across all areas in Maths.  With the new updates to Maths.co.uk, I am now able to set two separate objectives (a year 5 objective and a year 6 objective). Year 3 Forest School

Image
Year 3 Forest School The children really embraced their time outside this afternoon and didn't let the cold weather spoil their enjoyment and learning. We played 'The Shouting Game' first to warm up and talked about how it made us feel (mostly out of breath!) The children then chose their activities with lots of inventive, collaborative 'cooking' going on in the mud kitchen today. Two of the children managed to light the fire and made sure to not leave it unattended so that we could keep safe and keep the fire going. The children then cut and whittled sticks of fresh willow for toasting marshmallows. Everyone came to the fire one at a time to toast their marshmallows and then sandwich them between two chocolate digestives to make smores. Some children also used the saw and palm drill to make reindeer decorations and others made ingenious characters out of leaves. In the log circle at the end, the children talked with pride about what they were good at during the se...

Class 4's Courageous Week

Image
Class 4's Courageous Week This week, Class 4’s main focus has been their class sharing assembly, and it was fantastic! They did an amazing job showcasing a wide range of subjects, including Geography, English, Maths, PE, Spanish, DT, and Reading, all presented in their own unique and creative ways. On Friday, the whole school came together for a special focus on Creative Climate for Justice , exploring courageous advocacy . This means standing up for justice, taking bold actions to address challenges like climate change, and making a positive difference. As a Church of England school, we feel this is essential because it reflects the Christian values of love, justice, and stewardship of God’s creation. Class 4 focused on floods and created a stunning large-scale picture of the world using paint, drawings, and collage. It was truly amazing! Class 4 Sharing Assembly Creative Climate for Justice - Courageous Advocacy Have a lovely weekend! Miss Barber 😀
