Forest School Afternoon

Year 3 Forest School Session

We had lots of fun and adventures today in  our Year 3 Forest School session. We started with a group game of 'Forty-Forty Home,' which involved stealth and camouflage as well as risk and decision making. Some of the children then continued to organise their own games of this at points during the session. I think Year 3 would highly recommend this game - if you have a big enough group of people and some places to hide!

During the session the children used their drilling and whittling skills in the log circle, and used conkers and sticks to craft with. Other children worked together in the mud kitchen creating dishes (after removing any worms!) Some children had fun on the rope swing and challenged themselves on the rope walk (after learning how to tie it up.) We also had lots of fire lighting going on. These children learnt how to check if sticks are dry enough to burn, and collected dry sticks of various sizes to use to build a 'Jenga' style fire.

We talked at the end about when the children persevered during the session and how it made them feel, as there was so much perseverance in evidence. The children were able to talk about what they had achieved and when they didn't give up, even though they were finding things hard. Many of the children felt really proud of themselves and were able to share these positive feelings with the group.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Mrs. Rassell.
