Forest School Fun for Year 4
Friday Forest School for Year 4
Year 4 have had a fabulous time outside in our Forest School area this afternoon. They have really tested their team-work and communication skills alongside their imaginations and perseverance. We had a calm start to the afternoon, where the children chose an object from their Nature Spot and brought it back to the log circle to talk about what was special about it. There were lots of beautiful autumnal leaves which led to some great descriptive language being used.
After this, it became a very busy afternoon with everyone enthusiastically engaged in what they had chosen to do. We had some risk-taking with tree climbing and balancing on the rope walk. Some children worked together to tie tarpaulins up and make themselves a den. Other children were crafting to make dream-catchers or using tools to make bows and arrows (safety talk included!) There was also some successful fire lighting this week and the children could see how to start and keep a fire going. We talked about the three things needed for a fire - a spark, oxygen and fuel. The children even created a stinging nettle kitchen and a laboratory for stinging nettle investigations!
It was fabulous to see all the Year 4 children choosing and pursuing their own interests with such motivation and enjoyment. In the log circle at the end, the children were able to identify when they had persevered during the session and feel positive about their achievements.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Mrs Rassell
