Year 1 Forest School
Year 1 Forest School
We were very lucky that there was a lull in the high winds forecast this afternoon so we could get out for our Forest School session. The children loved our starter game of Giant Rock, Paper, Scissors, and quickly realised the importance of listening and remembering which action they had decided in their group.
The children then chose their activities with the usual enthusiasm and desire to challenge themselves. They had lots of fun on the rope walk, rope swing and using the rope ladder to climb the tree. We also had more delicious feasts being concocted in the mud kitchen.
Some of the children decided to make a den together. This involved huge amounts of perseverance, problem solving, teamwork and communication as they worked together to improve and adapt it. The end product was brilliant and they all enjoyed sitting inside and testing how waterproof it was.
Round the log circle, some of the children chose to use elder to make elder beads or used the pruning saw to cut and hollow out larger elder to make into pots with a secret compartment. Again, this involved perseverance and concentration to achieve their goal.
Right at the end of the session we had an exciting downpour...which the children were genuinely thrilled about. We had lots of fun and excitement being out in the heavy rain and being allowed to get wet!
Many thanks again to our lovely parent volunteers who support the sessions come rain or shine (definitely rain today!)
Best wishes,
Mrs. Rassell
