Forest School Year 2

 Fire lighting and S’mores!

Year 2 had another exciting time at Forest School today with lots of smiles and laughter. We began with a game of Rabbit and Hunters after talking about predators and prey. Everyone had different tactics for trying to catch the rabbit…some more successful than others!

After the game, we lit the fire and whittled some sticks ready for toasting our marshmallows. Some children chose to cook bananas with chocolate buttons instead, so they prepared these and brought them to the fire. Once the fire was going, everyone came one at a time to toast their marshmallow and sandwich it between two chocolate biscuits for their s’more. There were lots of conversations about how delicious the s’mores were…through mouthfuls of biscuit and marshmallow! I think it was definitely a resounding success!

During the session there were lots more opportunities for risk, challenge, communication and play, with tree climbing, the rope walk, the rope swing and the hammock all on offer. There was also plenty of whittling and fire lighting practice.

At the end of the morning session, the children were able to talk about the problems that they encountered during Forest School and how they approached solving them. It was a brilliant discussion which showed the diverse range of problems faced and the different strategies used to tackle them and ultimately be successful. The resilience and perseverance of the children shone through and it was fantastic to hear them  recognise this as they shared their experiences.

Wishing you all a wonderful week,

Mrs Rassell.
