Water Safety Collective Worship

Image
Water Safety Collective Worship Today at D’Arcy, we had a fantastic visit from Neil from the Essex Fire, Police and Rescue Service. He led an insightful collective worship focused on water safety, engaging pupils with practical advice and demonstrations. Neil taught the children the "starfish float" technique, a life-saving method to stay calm and safe in water. He also shared the four essential steps for staying safe around water: Stop, Think, Stay Together, and Float. The pupils were enthusiastic and attentive, gaining valuable knowledge that will help them stay safe during water-based activities. We thank Neil for his time and important message.

TIMES TABLES

Image
A gentle reminder that the children should be using TT Rockstar’s to practise their times tables every day for at least ten minutes. This is their maths homework. As mentioned previously, when the children are in year 4, they have to complete a National Multiplication Table Check (MTC). The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. This year, it will be between Monday 2 June and Friday 13 June The multiplication check consists of 25 random multiplication tables questions that could be anything from the 2 all the way to the 12 tables. They will have 6 seconds to read and answer the questions and they are expected to get at least 20 out of 25 correct. Therefore, speed and fluency in their application is essential. If you have any problems logging in to TT Rockstars, please ask for help. Remember, the more the children practise the better they will get! Thank you for your continued s...

Forest School Year 5

Image
Year 5 had a wonderful start to their Forest School sessions today. Most of the children have enjoyed Forest School previously and were excited to be back in the space.  It was beautifully sunny as the children set about exploring the area and seeking new areas of learning and challenge.  During the session we had some fantastic tree-climbing, where the children were able to persevere and keep pushing themselves to try again and build on what they had learnt. Towards the end, some of the children were thrilled to take the calculated risk and climb, hang from a branch and drop to the ground. It was lovely to see how exhilarated they felt having achieved this and overcome an initial sense of fear and trepidation by believing they could do it!  We also had lots of perseverance for fire-lighting and learning how to build and keep a fire going. Some of the group also chose to whittle and use tools to cut, peel and sharpen a stick successfully. Of course, there was also ...

Year 5 Spelling Year 6 Spellings Maths Each week there will be Maths homework assigned to the children on Maths.co.uk. The pupils have all received their log in details, but if there are any problems or your child has lost their log in details please speak to Miss Barber. These are short and focused quizzes to support the pupils across all areas in Maths.  With the new updates to Maths.co.uk, I am now able to set two separate objectives (a year 5 objective and a year 6 objective). In RE, we began reading scripture from the Bible, focusing on the powerful story of the Exodus. The children engaged thoughtfully with the text and discussed its meaning. It’s been a week full of learning, energy, and curiosity—we’re excited for all that’s ahead this term! PE Class 4 had a great time in PE this week, practising both short and long distance running.
