Enjoying the sunshine in class one

We have tried to make the most of the sunshine this week by doing lots of outdoor learning. As part of learning about living things and growing in science, we all planted bean seeds. We discussed what they need to grow and looked at parts of a plant.

Perrywoods Nursery in Tiptree kindly donated strawberry plants and individual vegetable seed planting kits for each of the children in class one to use. These were sourced by our wonderful PTFA and we can't thank you enough.  The children have taken the responsibility for watering the plants and have been looking carefully at the stages of growth of the strawberries. Next week we will repot the plants and think about how we can protect the strawberries from getting eaten by the birds!

We also had a visit from The Exotic Explorers as part of our science curriculum. The children got to see and touch: a barn owl, tree frog, Madagascan cockroach, snake and hedgehog.  Following the animal encounter and talk the children wrote thank you letters and drew pictures to send to the two visitors. The children then walked down to the post box to post their letters making links to both their English and Geography lessons.
