Reception Forest School
Forest School in the shade!
The Reception children were fantastic this afternoon as we enjoyed the shade and breeze we were fortunate enough to have.
At the start, the children were challenged to ‘Get to know a tree.’ They chose a tree and spent some time using their senses to notice things that were special about their tree. The children were all able to talk about the feel, smell or look of their tree and many children said that was what they enjoyed the most from the session.
After that, the children chose what they would like to do. Some relaxed and coloured on a blanket in the shade, others spent time with friends in the hammock. We had a tiny boat created and tested and lots of the children worked together to clear an area and make a mini river - complete with a bridge! Some children chose to make elder bead necklaces and showed brilliant concentration and determination when hollowing out the beads and threading them onto string. We also had an impromptu slide made at the log circle by some of the children.
We had some fantastic risk-taking and physical challenge after we made our own rope ladder in order to climb higher in the tree. It was lovely to see the children grow in confidence and self-belief as they tried for a second or third time and climbed higher, or were inspired by watching a friend climb high and wanted to do the same.
At the end of the session, we came back together to talk about what we enjoyed and everyone had lots of positive experiences to share.
Wishing you all a wonderful week,
Mrs Rassell.
