A Week of Sharing, Stories, and Science!
A Week of Sharing, Stories, and Science!
What a wonderful week we’ve had in Class One!
One of the highlights of the week was our Open Door event, where the children had the chance to proudly share their learning with the adults. It was lovely to see their confidence shine as they talked about their work and showed off everything they’ve been working so hard on this term. Thank you to everyone who came – it meant so much to the children!
In English, we’ve been enjoying the story "We're Going to Find a Monster!" The children absolutely loved the adventure and were full of imaginative ideas. They designed their own brilliant monsters – some scary, some funny, and all fantastically creative! They then labelled their drawings using descriptive words. Year One children took this even further by planning their own version of the story using a story mountain, thinking carefully about the beginning, build-up, problem, resolution, and ending.
In Science, we recapped the four seasons and had some great discussions about the rainy season – including what we notice about the weather and how it affects our environment. We also had lots of fun exploring rainbows and learning how they are made. The children loved seeing the colours appear and learning about how light and water work together to create these beautiful arcs in the sky.
In Maths, we’ve been busy revisiting our 2D and 3D shapes and reviewing number bonds to 10, using a variety of games and hands-on activities to support our understanding. Year One children have also been learning to tell the time to the hour and half past – they’ve been fantastic time detectives, spotting clocks around the classroom and practising reading the time.
It’s been a full and fun week of learning, and we’re so proud of all the children’s enthusiasm and effort. Well done, Class One!
Have a restful weekend – we can’t wait for another week of learning and discovery!
