Reception Class Blog – This Week’s Learning Adventures
Reception Class Blog – This Week’s Learning Adventures
We’ve had a very busy and exciting week in Reception! Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been learning together:
Mastering Number
In maths, we have been practising our subitising skills with the numbers 1, 2 and 3. The children have been spotting these numbers in collections of objects and noticing patterns of 1s, 2s and 3s all around us. We’ve also enjoyed singing lots of counting rhymes to help us practise our number skills – two favourites this week were 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer and 5 Little Monkeys.
Science
In science, we explored the weather and had fun learning about rain, ice and snow. The children were amazed as we tried to make rainbows together, and we even experimented with making some of our very own snow!
English and Phonics
We started working on our All About Me books, where the children are beginning to tell their own stories through pictures and words. In phonics, we learnt four new sounds: i, n, m, d. The children are doing a brilliant job practising these, along with the actions that help us remember them.
R.E.
In R.E., we read the Creation Story, thinking about the world around us and how it began.
Autumn Art
We’ve also been noticing the changes of the season. The children enjoyed sketching pumpkins, conkers and acorns and creating colourful leaf rubbings to celebrate autumn.

-
Weekly Reading Book: In addition to the online book, your child will also bring home one Level 2 book each week in their book bag.
It’s been a wonderful week full of learning, exploring and creating – we are so proud of how well the children are settling in and can’t wait to see what next week brings!
