Reception Class Blog – This Week’s Learning Journey

Reception Class Blog – This Week’s Learning Journey

We’ve had another exciting and busy week in Reception, full of curiosity, creativity, and fun!

Phonics
This week we have been learning the sounds: g, o, c, k. The children enjoyed blending these sounds to read new words and practised their skills during guided reading with the book Sip, Sip, Tip. We talked about the pictures in the story and discussed the different fruits the characters used to make their smoothies – which sparked some lovely conversations about favourite fruits!

English
The children worked hard to complete their All About Me books. They drew and wrote about things they like and dislike doing, as well as foods they enjoy and foods they aren’t so keen on. These books are a wonderful way for us to celebrate each child’s individuality.

Mathematics
In maths, we have been practising careful counting by moving objects one at a time and placing them in a line. We also explored how to count larger objects that cannot be moved by touching or pointing to them. The children had fun joining in with counting rhymes, and we especially enjoyed singing Hickory Dickory Dock together.

Harvest Poem
We are so proud of the children for their confidence and enthusiasm when reading a class harvest poem aloud. They did brilliantly and it was a joy to see their growing love for language and performance.

RE
Our discussions in RE focused on the Christian creation story. We thought about how, for many Christians, Harvest is a time to say thank you to God for the world and everything in it, and to share a little of what they have with others. The children shared thoughtful ideas about gratitude and kindness.

Art
In art, the children had a great time exploring mark-making with felt tips. They created lines that were straight, curved, zig-zagged, long, and short – building fine motor skills while experimenting with different movements.

Science
Science was especially exciting this week! The children explored ice and worked together to free hidden objects that had been frozen inside ice cubes. There was lots of curiosity, problem-solving, and laughter as they experimented.

Spanish
Finally, in Spanish the children learned how to introduce themselves by saying, “My name is…” – a fantastic first step in their language learning journey!
