Reception Class Blog – Weekly Round-Up

Hello everyone!

We’ve had a busy and exciting week in Reception, filled with learning, creativity, and lots of fun! Here's a little look at what we've been up to:

Phonics

This week in phonics, we have been learning the sounds: ck, e, u, and r. The children have been working hard on blending and segmenting sounds, helping them to read and write simple words. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they apply their phonics knowledge in their writing and reading.

English

In English, the children began writing their own version of My Favourite Story Book.” We talked about different story characters and what they do. The children had a go at writing speech bubbles, using the phonics sounds they have learnt so far. It’s lovely to see their ideas come to life on paper!

Spanish

¡Hola! In Spanish this week, the children learnt how to express how they are feeling. Through songs and games, they practised saying if they felt, good, bad or in between – all in Spanish! Muy bien, Reception!

Maths

In Maths, we explored the composition of numbers 2, 3 and 4. The children had fun identifying groups that were and were not those numbers, using real objects, their fingers, and other classroom equipment. We’ve continued singing number rhymes to support our understanding of counting and number recognition.

 Guided Reading

We read the book Pat a Pig during Guided Reading. The children enjoyed practising their blending skills using the sounds they’ve learnt so far. It’s wonderful to see them so engaged and proud of their reading progress.

Art

Our creative side came to life this week as we explored using chalk to draw and mark-make. The children particularly enjoyed taking their artwork outside, creating colourful pictures on the playground and pavements.

Outdoor Learning

We also made great use of our outdoor stage, where the children loved putting on little shows for each other. From singing to acting out stories, their confidence and imagination really shone through!

Reminders

Please remember to log into Rhino Readers at home to access your child’s individual reading book, matched to their phonics learning. You can find their login details inside their reading record. Regular reading at home makes a big difference!

Thank you for your continued support – we’re so proud of all the children and everything they are achieving each week.

Have a lovely weekend!
