Reception Blog – This Week’s Learning

We have had a wonderfully busy week in Reception! The children have taken part in our assessment week, completing a range of practical tasks and enjoying lots of adult-led observation activities. They have been fantastic at showing us all the skills they have been developing.

In phonics, we continued working within level 3, practising and consolidating the digraphs qu, ch and sh. The children impressed us with their growing confidence in recognising these sounds and using them in words.

In maths, we’ve been singing our Days of the Week song to the tune of the Addams Family—always a favourite! We have also been subitising numbers to 6 and using Numicon to explore different ways of making 7. The children enjoyed building cube towers to find one more and one less, and continued practising their counting skills and recognising numerals.

For handwriting, the class has been working hard on forming capital letters, focusing on pencil control and starting points.

In R.E., we learned about the Nativity story and continued our Nativity rehearsals. The excitement is definitely building, and the children are doing so well remembering their songs and parts.

Well done, Reception, for another fantastic week of learning!
