🎄 A Festive Week in Reception 🎄
What a magical and busy festive week we have had in Reception! The children have been full of excitement, creativity and enthusiasm as we enjoyed lots of lovely Christmas activities together.
🎨 Festive Fun and Creativity
The children loved getting creative by making beautiful angel decorations, designing Christmas cards, and threading bead candy canes, which was great for developing their fine motor skills. One of the highlights of the week was decorating Grinch biscuits – a very fun (and tasty!) activity enjoyed by everyone.
The children also worked hard to write Christmas messages inside their cards, thinking carefully about their letters and sharing kind messages for others.
🔤 Phonics Learning
In phonics this week, we focused on the digraphs ar, oa and oo (long and short vowel sounds). The children practised reading tricky words including he, me, she, we, be, was, my and the, and had a go at writing ar. They showed fantastic effort and growing confidence – well done!
🔢 Mastering Number
Our maths learning was full of singing and games. We enjoyed singing “One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Once I Caught a Fish Alive” and played subitising games, spotting dot patterns quickly. The children identified numerals 1–5, built towers of 1–5, and explored parts and wholes, helping them deepen their understanding of number. We also played lots of number recognition games, which the children really enjoyed.
✨ RE and the Nativity
In RE, we spent time learning about the Nativity story. A real highlight was our visit to the church, where the children behaved beautifully and thoroughly enjoyed singing carols in such a special setting.
Thank you so much for your lovely cards, kind messages and generous gifts – they were truly appreciated.
We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, restful holiday from the Class One team 🎅🎁
