Reception Class Weekly Blog

ðŸŒŸ Reception Class Weekly Blog 🌟

We’ve had a wonderfully busy and festive week in Reception, filled with learning, laughter and lots of Christmas magic!

📚 English
In English, we continued exploring rhyme and patterned stories. The children are becoming so confident at spotting rhyming words and joining in with repeated phrases—well done, everyone!

✍️ Handwriting
This week we focused on forming capital letters and practising name writing. The children worked very hard on holding their pencils correctly and taking their time with each letter.

📖 Guided Reading
Our guided reading text was On the Bus. The children enjoyed talking about the characters and the journey they went on, and we practised using the pictures to help understand the story.

🎄 Christmas Pantomime Fun
A highlight of our week was definitely the Christmas pantomime! The children were captivated from start to finish and loved joining in with the songs and laughter.

🔤 Phonics
In phonics, we practised the digraphs ai and ee. The children enjoyed spotting these sounds in words and having a go at writing them too.

➗ Maths
In maths, we explored the concept of parts and a whole. We linked this to the parts of the body and sang Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes to help us understand how smaller parts can make a whole. The children really enjoyed the practical activities.

🎶 Nativity Practice
Our nativity rehearsals are going brilliantly! The children are working so hard to remember songs and actions. We hope you’re all looking forward to watching the performance next week—we can’t wait to share it with you.

🎨 Art
In art, the children created beautiful reindeer Christmas cards using pom poms, felt tips and a sprinkling of glitter. They look fantastic and we can’t wait for you to see them.

Thank you for your continued support. We hope you all have a lovely weekend! 🌟
