π Reception Weekly Learning Update π
We’ve had a very busy and exciting week in Reception! Here’s a snapshot of what the children have been learning across the curriculum:
π€ Phonics
This week we have been learning the trigraphs ear and air. The children have been practising blending and reading words containing these sounds. We have also been learning to read our tricky words all and are, and revisiting how to spell the tricky words the, to, I, no and go.
✍️ Handwriting
The children have been practising correct letter formation for the letter h and working on writing Level 2 tricky words, focusing on careful letter formation and starting points.
π’ Maths
In maths, we have been learning all about the number 5. We sang 5 Little Speckled Frogs and used cubes and our fingers to explore numbers practically. We began introducing the 5-frame and the Hungarian 5-frame/dice pattern.
The children continued to practise subitising and played games such as Fast Fingers and Flashy Fingers. We explored different ways to make 5 using stem sentences such as:
-
5 is made from 4 and 1
-
5 is made from 3 and 2
-
5 is made from 5 and 0
We also continued learning about patterning, looking for and counting units of repeat, before creating our own patterns.
π P.E.
In dance, the children created shapes and movements linked to being cars and travelling. During outdoor P.E., they followed instructions and played games that involved problem solving, working with a partner to listen, share ideas, and ask questions.
π English
We continued writing in our I Like booklets. The children have been trying to write a sentence independently using the sentence starter:
“This is a …”
π PSHE
We discussed what is safe to put on our bodies, such as clothes, plasters, and sun cream, helping children to develop awareness of personal safety and care.
π Geography
The children learned about the weather in cold places and explored which animals live there. We talked about what people wear in cold weather and compared these places to where we live, thinking about similarities and differences.
π¬ Science
In science, we explored insects and invertebrates and went on an exciting bug hunt outdoors, observing what we could find in our environment.
π΅ Music
We continued to enjoy singing together and learned more traditional rhymes and counting songs, supporting rhythm, memory, and number skills.
π Parent Reminder
A gentle reminder that snacks brought into school should be healthy. Please ensure that fruit and vegetables are cut appropriately to help prevent choking, as mentioned in previous posts. Thank you for your continued support.
Well done to all the children for their fantastic learning this week! π
