Class 3 Fantastic Fossils

Class 3 have thoroughly enjoyed their learning about rocks during science lessons this term. They have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm while exploring different types of rocks and their properties.

This week, the children focused on learning about fossils and how they are formed over millions of years. They discussed how fossils provide important evidence about living things from the past and help us understand the history of the Earth. The class explored different types of fossils, including trace fossils, and learned how these can show the activity of organisms, such as footprints or burrows.

To support their learning, the children took part in a hands-on activity where they created their own fossil imprints. Linking to trace fossils, they made salt dough and carefully pressed their thumbs into it to represent an imprint, similar to how animals or plants might leave marks that eventually become fossilised. The children really enjoyed this creative activity and were excited to see how their own “fossils” turned out.
