Forest School fun

This week at Forest School, we were lucky enough to enjoy some beautiful sunshine, which made our time outdoors even more special.

We were incredibly grateful to receive another generous donation of wood. This included some large hazel branches, which were perfect for den building. The children worked collaboratively, using their problem-solving skills and imagination to construct a variety of shelters and structures. Alongside this, we also had some elder wood, which inspired a different kind of creativity. The children explored woodcraft techniques such as whittling and carefully boring out the centre to create their own musical instruments. This activity allowed them to develop a range of practical skills, from fine motor control to patience and perseverance—and it was thoroughly enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Across the site, it was wonderful to see so many imaginative spaces taking shape. There were cosy dens, carefully crafted bird nests, and even small garden areas being designed and created. The children took great pride in their work, demonstrating teamwork, creativity, and a strong connection to the natural environment.

One of the dens built in previous weeks had started to look a little unsteady, so the children and adults worked together to review and rethink the structure. The children were highly involved in this process, using their evaluation skills to assess what needed to be improved and how to make it safe. They shared ideas, tested solutions, and showed great teamwork and responsibility as they strengthened and adapted the den. It was fantastic to see such thoughtful problem-solving and collaboration in action.

We also enjoyed s'mores, a mud 'spa' and some lively rope swinging!

It has been a joyful, productive week, filled with exploration, creativity, and collaboration in the sunshine.
