Reception’s busy week

It has been another busy and exciting week in Reception! In Maths, the children have been exploring numbers within 10, focusing on doubles and learning how two equal parts combine to make a whole using fingers, dice and other familiar representations. In English, we enjoyed reading Jack and the Beanstalk and practised writing simple sentences such as “Jack went up,” with some children challenging themselves to extend this. We also wrote a special sentence about Mother’s Day and drew lovely pictures of our mums. The children have been working hard on their name writing, handwriting (focusing on correct pencil grip), and phonics, where we have been practising reading and spelling CVCC words and tricky words. In RE, we recapped Christian baptism and learned about the Muslim celebration of Aqiqah. In Science, we had lots of fun learning about dinosaurs, including how they lived, what they ate, and why they are now extinct, alongside lots of dinosaur-themed activities. In PSHE, we talked about staying safe online, and in PE, we enjoyed developing our coordination through fun balloon games.

The log in to the Twinkl Rhino Readers is now working, and you should be able to access your child’s online reading books. Any problems, please let me know. As a reminder, reading regularly at home is very important at this early stage—if your child reads at least 3 times a week, their name will be entered into our reading raffle!
