World Maths Day Fun in Class One

Reception Class Blog – Celebrating World Maths Day

Today, our Reception class had a fantastic time celebrating World Maths Day! We spent the day exploring just how important maths is in our everyday lives and how it helps us in so many different jobs when we grow up.

We talked about the different areas of maths, including number, measure, and shape. The children shared their thoughts about maths and what they enjoy most. Some of their wonderful comments included:
“I love maths”
“I can count to 20”
“We have fun”
“I like sorting the dinosaurs into colours”
“I like using the balance scales”
“I like the stuff in the maths area”

It was lovely to hear how enthusiastic the children are about learning maths!

Throughout the day, we explored maths both inside and outside the classroom. Indoors, the children enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities, including sorting, counting, and using different equipment in our maths area. Outdoors, we went on a maths adventure where we counted natural objects, searched for shapes, and spotted patterns in the environment around us.

The children also took part in lots of problem-solving activities, working together to think carefully and find solutions. It was wonderful to see their confidence growing as they used their mathematical skills in different ways.

To finish our day, we came together to sing our “Days of the Week” song, adding a musical touch to our maths celebration!

We are so proud of all the children and their excitement for maths. What a fun and successful World Maths Day!
