Reception Fun
Reception Weekly Blog 🌟
What a fantastic week of learning we’ve had in Reception!
We have been busy practising for our class assembly, and the children are very excited to share their learning, singing, and dancing with you. We look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday!
Maths 🔢
In Maths, we explored measuring using rulers, tape measures, and metre sticks. The children enjoyed finding objects that were long and short and comparing their lengths.
We also learned about odd and even numbers using Numberblocks, explored doubles, and used tens frames to understand how 10 is made of 5 and 5.
History 👑
In History, we learned about kings and queens, focusing on Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. The children explored the royal family tree and drew some wonderful pictures of King Charles.
We also linked our learning to traditional tales, reading stories such as Cinderella.
English 📚
In handwriting, we practised forming numerals 1–4 carefully.
In phonics, we focused on trigraphs: ear, igh, air, ure, and practised reading tricky words: you, all, are, they.
We enjoyed reading Jack and the Beanstalk and created our own storybooks! The children designed front covers, drew characters, and labelled them using their phonics knowledge. They especially loved drawing Jack swapping the cow for beans.
In guided reading, we worked on decoding words, making predictions, and answering questions about the story.
PSHE 🌱
We explored growth mindset by reading Rosie Revere, Engineer. The children shared times when things didn’t go as planned and talked about how we can keep trying and learning from mistakes.
RE ✨
In RE, we talked about special places. The children discussed places that are important to them and learned about places of worship and pilgrimage sites. We also explored places that are special to Muslims and Christians.
Well done to all the children for their hard work this week—we are so proud of you! We can’t wait to see you at our class assembly 😊
