🌟 Reception Weekly Blog 🌟

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Reception! The children have been busy learning, exploring and preparing for something very special…

🎭 Class Assembly

We have been practising our class assembly, and the children are doing an amazing job getting ready to showcase their learning. We can’t wait for you to see their confidence, enthusiasm and all their hard work!

📚 English

This week, our learning has focused on the human body, linking closely with our science topic. The children have enjoyed:

  • Reading a range of books about body parts

  • Taking part in a fun body parts quiz

  • Going outside to draw around their friends using chalk and labelling different body parts

  • Creating their own “My Body” books, where they drew, labelled and wrote about what their bodies can do (like jumping and singing!)

It’s been wonderful to see the children applying both their speaking and early writing skills in such engaging ways.

✏️ Handwriting

In handwriting, we have been practising our zig-zag monster letters:
v, w, x, z
The children are becoming more confident with forming these correctly—well done!

🔤 Phonics

We have been learning and revisiting tricky words:
my, here, he, she, we, me, be

We also revisited some Level 3 phonemes:
ure, ow, ar, ear and practised blending and segmenting.

Please continue to practise these at home—it really helps to build confidence and fluency.

🔢 Maths

In maths, we have been focusing on counting to find out how many objects there are. The children explored:

  • Counting carefully and understanding that the last number tells us how many (cardinality)

  • Filling jugs with pine cones, pebbles and wooden blocks to explore capacity

📖 Reading Reminder

Don’t forget to log on to Rhino Readers to access your child’s online reading book.

📚 Please try to read at least 3 times a week to be entered into our reading raffle!
You can record any reading you do at home—it doesn’t have to be their school book.

Thank you for your continued support—we are so proud of all the children and their hard work this week! 🌈
