This afternoon, Tolleshunt D’Arcy School celebrated the 100th birthday of David Attenborough with a range of exciting environmental learning activities inspired by his incredible work. Every class took part in creative projects exploring nature, habitats, and conservation.

Class 1 enjoyed printing leaves before heading outdoors on a minibeast scavenger hunt, discovering the fascinating wildlife around our school grounds. Class 2 explored food chains and the circle of life, creating a fantastic paper chain display to demonstrate how living things depend on one another to survive.

Class 3 used natural materials collected from outside to build a variety of habitats, learning how animals adapt and survive in different environments. Meanwhile, Class 4 became television producers, creating their own environmental documentaries and stepping into the shoes of David Attenborough himself.

Finally, Class 5 became conservationists, designing environmental projects and debating which ideas would be the most effective for improving our school environment.

It was a wonderful afternoon of learning, teamwork, and creativity. Happy 100th birthday to an inspiration who has encouraged generations to care for the natural world. Your work inspired our learning today and will continue to inspire us for many years to come.

Class 1

To celebrate David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, Class 1 explored the natural world around them. The children created beautiful leaf prints before heading outside on an exciting minibeast scavenger hunt. They loved searching for insects and discovering more about the tiny creatures living within our school environment during a fun-filled afternoon together.

Class 2

During this afternoon’s celebrations, Class 2 learnt about food chains and the circle of life in honour of David Attenborough. The children worked together to create a colourful paper chain showing different food chains and how living things rely on one another to survive within the natural world around us every day.

Class 3

Using natural materials collected from outside, Class 3 created a variety of animal habitats to celebrate David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. The children explored how animals live and survive in different environments, carefully designing habitats that provided shelter, food, and protection while learning about the importance of caring for wildlife and protecting nature.

Class 4

Inspired by the work of David Attenborough, Class 4 became television producers for the afternoon. The children created their own environmental documentaries, learning how to present information about nature and conservation. They thoroughly enjoyed stepping into the role of David Attenborough and sharing their knowledge about protecting our planet with others.

Class 5

Thinking like true conservationists, Class 5 celebrated David Attenborough’s 100th birthday by designing environmental projects to improve our school grounds. The children debated which ideas would be the most effective, showing fantastic teamwork, thoughtful discussion skills, and a genuine passion for protecting the environment for future generations to enjoy.
