Forest School fun for Years 2 and 6

We were delighted to welcome our Year 2 and Year 6 to their first Forest School session together. Despite the wet weather, the children showed fantastic resilience and enthusiasm.

The children were excited to explore and investigate the Forest School area and all were keen to get started on various tasks and activities.

One popular activity was shelter building. Working together, the children demonstrated excellent cooperation and communication skills as they designed and constructed shelters using pallets, tarpaulins, sticks, and ropes. They carefully considered how to make their shelters strong and weatherproof, testing ideas and solving problems together along the way.

The mud kitchen was also a popular area throughout the session. It was wonderful to see their creativity flourish as they worked together, shared resources, and developed their own ideas through play.

Another creative activity involved weaving beautiful crowns from willow. The children carefully decorated their crowns with elderflowers and lemon balm, which were kindly donated by one of our parent helpers. The natural materials added a lovely sensory element to the activity, and the finished crowns looked fantastic.

The children also had the opportunity to practise their whittling skills. They learned how to use tools safely to shape sticks before creating their own bows and arrows. This encouraged patience, concentration, and perseverance, and the children were incredibly proud of their finished creations.

Well done to the children, we are looking forward to seeing what they achieve in future Forest School sessions. Thank you to the adults to supported us.
