Reception's Butterfly Bonanza
Reception Weekly Learning Blog
What an exciting and memorable week we have had in Reception!
Our highlight of the week was releasing our beautiful butterflies. The children have loved observing the incredible life cycle from caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly. We linked our learning to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the children completed their own independent writing, sharing what they had learned about our class caterpillars and butterflies.
In our topic work, we began thinking about Planet Earth and how we can look after our world. Linked to our Science learning, we explored our senses and discussed what we can see, hear and smell in the environment around us. The children enjoyed sharing their observations and ideas about caring for our planet.
In Handwriting, we continued practising letter formation and focused on spelling tricky words.
During Phonics, we worked on blending and segmenting words and recapped the digraphs and trigraphs we have learned so far to help build confidence in reading and writing.
In Maths, we practised subitising amounts to 6, helping the children recognise quantities without counting. We also continued developing our understanding of spatial language and visualisation by describing arrangements of objects and discussing what we noticed. The children were introduced to using a rekenrek, learning how to push groups of beads smoothly with one finger while remembering our key phrase, "Whites to the right, reds ready to go!"
In Religious Education, we thought about stories that are special to us, as well as stories that are special to Christians and Jewish people. We read the story of Noah and the Ark and discussed the significance of the rainbow as a symbol of God's promise.
In Music, the children enjoyed listening and moving to a steady beat through a variety of songs and activities.
In P.E., we have been preparing for Sports Day. The children practised running in their own lanes and worked on passing a baton during relay races, showing great teamwork and determination.
We are very proud of all the children for their enthusiasm and hard work this week. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to another week of exciting learning!
