Reception Fun in the Sun
This week in Reception, we made a few changes to our usual timetable because of the hot weather. The children adapted brilliantly, and we used the opportunity to reinforce and recap lots of our previous learning in fun and practical ways.
We revisited our counting skills and used a range of practical equipment to create and extend patterns. The children enjoyed exploring mathematical concepts through hands-on activities and discussions.
To stay cool, we enjoyed indoor water play, which provided lots of opportunities for learning, sharing, and problem-solving. Throughout the week, the children were very busy in our continuous provision areas, engaging in art and craft activities, constructing with LEGO, and developing their creativity and imagination through play.
Our writing activities were linked to our role-play shop, where the children wrote lists of items they wanted to buy and sell. It was wonderful to see them applying their phonics and writing skills in a meaningful context.
We were very grateful to Pre-School for kindly inviting us to meet some of the animals they had visiting them for the day. The children were excited to see the hamster, bunny, dog, and guinea pig and enjoyed learning more about them.
Another lovely experience this week was teaming up with the Year 6 children. The older children shared books with us and read stories, which Reception thoroughly enjoyed. It was wonderful to see the children listening so attentively and building positive relationships across the school.
To finish the week, we enjoyed our school disco on Friday. The children had lots of fun dancing with their friends, joining in with the music, and celebrating together. It was a fantastic way to end a busy and enjoyable week.
