🌟 Reception  🌟

What a lovely week we have had in Reception! The children have continued to settle into our routines and have been busy exploring, learning and getting to know one another. We have been especially proud of how well the children are beginning to join in with whole-class activities and share their ideas.

📚 Phonics

This week, we have been learning our first set of phonics sounds: s, a, t and p. We have been practising saying each sound, learning the actions that go with them and listening carefully for these sounds in words.

We have also started to put our sounds together to read words. The children have enjoyed both individual reading and shared reading, using the decodable book Pat. This has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to practise using the sounds they have learnt and develop their confidence as early readers.

✏️ English

We have started our English learning and have enjoyed exploring some lovely books together, including That's Not My Name, All Are Welcome and You Can.

These stories have encouraged us to talk about ourselves, our names, our families and the things we can do. The children have had lots of opportunities to share their ideas, listen to their friends and begin developing their own writing and mark-making.

As part of our learning, we have also been talking about our homes and families and creating our own drawings and early writing. We are encouraging the children to have a go at recording what they know, using the sounds and letters they have learnt so far. As our planning recognises, children's writing will look different at this stage, and we celebrate every step in their development.

🌾 Harvest

With Harvest approaching, we have also been learning and practising our Harvest poem, Thank You Farmer. The children have enjoyed joining in with the words and actions and thinking about all the wonderful food that farmers help to grow.

🔢 Maths

This week we have finished our Reception baseline assessments. This has given us a chance to get to know the children as mathematicians and see what they already know and can do.

We have also continued to explore early counting and number skills through our classroom activities and play. 

📅 Days of the Week

We have been singing our Days of the Week song and have started thinking carefully about the days of the week when we record the date each day as a class.

The children are beginning to understand that the days come in a particular order and are enjoying joining in with our daily routines.

🏡 Learning Through Play

Our continuous provision has given the children lots of opportunities to develop their learning through play. We have been exploring homes, families, mark-making, construction, role play, creative activities and books.

The children have particularly enjoyed talking about their own experiences and using these ideas in their play. Our classroom activities encourage children to talk, draw, write and share their ideas, supporting them to become increasingly confident communicators and learners.

It has been another busy and exciting week, and we are so proud of how much the children are beginning to learn, explore and grow in confidence. 🌟
