What a busy week in Maple Class!

We have had another busy and enjoyable week in Maple Class, with lots of opportunities to explore, create, investigate and think carefully about our learning.

In Science, we have been exploring which materials and objects are reflective. The children enjoyed investigating a range of different objects and thinking carefully about what made some surfaces reflect light more effectively than others. We talked about how light behaves when it reaches different materials and recorded our observations from our investigation.

We have also been getting creative in our dance sessions. The children choreographed their own dance phrases, thinking about how they could use movement to show the personality of Matilda. We used a cheerful piece of music from Amélie as our inspiration and thought carefully about how different movements, gestures and expressions could communicate a character. It was lovely to see the children using their imaginations and working together to develop their ideas.

In Maths, we have moved on to flexible partitioning, building on our understanding of place value. We have been using Base 10 equipment to represent numbers in different ways and explore how numbers can be partitioned flexibly. These are important skills which will support lots of our future learning, so we are working hard to develop confidence and accuracy. We will continue to practise and secure these skills next week.

We continued our learning about Noah, thinking more deeply about what kind of person he was and the qualities he demonstrated. The children discussed what we can learn from Noah and considered how qualities such as trust, perseverance and following what is right can be relevant to our own lives.

In Art, we have been developing our drawing skills. The children have been sketching and designing buildings, looking carefully at shapes, lines and details. They have enjoyed experimenting with their own ideas and thinking about how they might design a building that is both interesting and functional.

It has been lovely to see the children continuing to settle into our routines and grow in confidence as learners. They have worked hard this week and there has been lots of enthusiasm, creativity and thoughtful discussion across the curriculum. Well done, Maple Class! 🌟
