🌿 Willow Class – What We’ve Been Learning
What a fantastic start to our time in Willow Class! We have been so proud of how well the children are settling into their new routines and how much enthusiasm they are showing for all the activities we have been enjoying together.
📚 CLL Baseline
The children have now completed the CLL (Communication, Language and Literacy) part of their baseline. They have all tried incredibly hard and, most importantly, have really enjoyed taking part in the activities.
We are now beginning the Maths section of our baseline. We will continue to support the children to show us what they already know through lots of practical, playful activities.
🔢 Counting and Phonics
We have been having lots of fun with counting rhymes, as well as counting the beats of the drum up to 3. These activities are helping the children to develop their early counting skills in a fun and engaging way.
As part of Level 1 phonics, before we begin the formal teaching of Level 2 phonics, we have been playing lots of listening games. The children have been learning to listen carefully and identify different environmental sounds, such as sounds they might hear outside in the garden or at the zoo.
The children particularly enjoyed listening to the different animal sounds – the sea lion was a firm favourite and caused lots of giggles! 🦭
🏃♀️ P.E. and Getting Changed
The children have shown great independence when getting changed for P.E. It has been wonderful to see them having a go at managing their own clothes and belongings.
During our P.E. sessions, we have been learning how to use spaces safely and have enjoyed playing the “Beans Game”. The children have had lots of fun following instructions and moving in different ways.
🌳 Forest School
Forest School has been another big favourite! The children have loved being outdoors, exploring their surroundings and developing their confidence as they climb, investigate and discover.
It has been lovely to see their curiosity and excitement as they explore the outdoor environment together.
🍕 Settling into Our New Routine
I am incredibly proud of how well the children are coping with their new school routines. They have shown wonderful independence in the dinner hall, including collecting their lunches and managing their meals.
They have also been enjoying the school dinners, with pizza proving particularly popular. One child summed it up perfectly with a very enthusiastic “Yum!” 🍕
Please remember to share the school menu with your child and talk to them about which meal choice you have booked with them. This will help them to feel prepared and confident when they arrive at lunchtime.
📖 Twinkl Learner
It has been fantastic to see that so many of you have managed to log into your Twinkl learner logins and share your child’s e-book with them.
If you have had any difficulties logging in or accessing the e-books, please let us know and we will be happy to help.
We are so proud of all the children and everything they have achieved already. They have made such a positive start to Willow Class, and it is wonderful to see their confidence, independence and enjoyment growing each day. 🌿💚
Well done, Willow!
