Reception Weekly Blog – What a Wonderful Half Term! 🎃🍂

What a fantastic final week of our first half term in Reception! The children have worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks, and we are so proud of how much they have grown in confidence, developed their skills and become increasingly independent. It has been a wonderful half term full of learning, laughter and new experiences!

🎃 Halloween Fun!

We have had a spooktacular week filled with Halloween and pumpkin-themed activities! The children had a fantastic time at the Halloween disco, enjoying the music, dancing and celebrating with their friends. It was lovely to see so many happy faces and lots of enthusiasm!

Back in the classroom, we embraced the Halloween spirit with lots of exciting creative activities. The children enjoyed making their own pumpkins out of dough, exploring the texture and using their hands and fingers to mould and shape their creations. They also took part in a fine motor activity, carefully scrunching small pieces of tissue paper to decorate a pumpkin. This was a wonderful way to strengthen their little fingers and develop the skills needed for writing.

We also explored our early writing skills by looking at the letter 'p' for pumpkin. The children had a go at writing the letter 'p', practising their pencil control and thinking about the sounds and letters in words. We are so proud of their efforts and the growing confidence they are showing when having a go at writing!

🔢 Magical Maths!

Maths was full of Halloween magic this week! The children enjoyed using magic counting wands to practise their counting skills and explore numbers in a fun and engaging way. We also enjoyed counting rhymes and songs, helping us to develop our number recognition, counting and mathematical language.

Through these playful activities, the children are learning that maths can be found all around us, and it has been wonderful to see them becoming more confident when counting and exploring numbers.

📚 Growing as Little Learners

Alongside our Halloween fun, we have continued to develop our early literacy skills. The children have been exploring stories, talking about what happens next and thinking about how stories develop. We have encouraged them to share their ideas, use their imaginations, draw pictures and have a go at representing their thoughts through marks, letters and words.

In phonics, we have continued to practise recognising and learning our sounds, building the foundations for reading and writing. The children have been showing such a positive attitude towards their learning and are becoming more willing to try things independently.

We have also been noticing the changes that autumn brings, including falling leaves, changing colours and cooler weather. It has been lovely to encourage the children to look closely at the world around them and talk about what they can see.

🌟 Celebrating a Wonderful Half Term!

As we reach the end of our first half term, we want to say how incredibly proud we are of every single child. They have worked so hard, embraced new challenges and made such wonderful progress. From putting on their coats and managing their belongings to making choices during play and having a go at new activities, the children are becoming such independent little learners.

It has been a joy to watch their confidence grow, friendships develop and personalities shine. They are learning to persevere when things feel tricky, celebrate their achievements and take pride in what they can do.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you all have a wonderful, restful half-term break filled with lots of fun, family time and perhaps a little more Halloween magic!

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting half term of learning and adventures. ❤️

Have a lovely half term, everyone! 🍂🎃
