Class 3 History and Descriptive Writing

Image
Class 3 Historians Class 3 proved to be excellent historians this week as we came to the end of our history topic. The children were able to recap everything they remembered about life in Ancient Greece and life in Iron Age Britain.  They worked brilliantly in their groups to discuss and organise their information into categories, such as education, religious beliefs and food and drink. The children then had to compare life in Ancient Greece and life in Iron Age Britain and look at what was similar and what was different. I think we all concluded that there were a lot of gruesome battles and we'd all prefer to be alive now! This morning the children enjoyed being inspired by the beautiful autumnal scenes we are so lucky to have at Tolleshunt D'Arcy school. We spent some time outside using our senses to notice what was around us; watching the falling leaves and breathing in the woodland smells. We then used our experiences to write a descriptive piece of writing. The aim was for...

Class 2's amazing week and happy half term!

Well done to the children for a fabulous first half term in Year 2. They have all worked incredibly hard. This week we have enjoyed some Halloween dancing and games in PE, where the children showed off their Monster Mash moves and were excellent jumping pumpkins! In RE we revisited our learning on Hindu and Christian celebrations and learned about the sacred texts in both religions.  In Geography we started our learning on the Equator and the weather in Equatorial countries. The children were really engaged in learning about climate zones. Finally today, we enjoyed the Halloween disco. Thank you to the PTFA for organising it for us all, the children were so excited and all behaved impeccably.  Wishing everyone a happy, restful half term. The Class 2 team

Class 4's Fantastic Final Week

Image
Class 4's Fantastic Final Week Class 4 had an amazing final week of the first term! We proudly published our writing, showcasing all our hard work and creativity. We also completed a special sewing project, making and stuffing adorable elephant toys to which they will take home at the end of November. Meanwhile, the Year 6s took part in Bikeability, building up their cycling skills. To celebrate Halloween, they crafted spooky decorations that brightened up the classroom. The week ended on a high note at the PTFA Halloween disco, where everyone enjoyed music, costumes, and treats. It was a fantastic finish to a busy and memorable term! Writing The pupils wrapped up their character flaw stories, skillfully using their computer skills to edit, format, and publish their work. Each story highlighted unique character journeys, showcasing the students' creativity and writing growth. The final published pieces were a proud achievement, celebrating their hard work and digital skills. ...

Another busy week

This week the children have listened to the story of The Little Red Hen. Reception joined in with retelling the story aloud then used shapes to make the Little Red Hen. Year One created their own story maps then retold the story in writing. Year one have also been planning and writing their own four part stories and completed a reading comprehension activity.  In Maths, Reception have been learning to subitise and represent, 1,2 and 3. They have also explored the concept of finding one more and one less and enjoyed singing the song: Three Little Speckled Frogs. They also used fruits and vegetables to print their own repeating patterns. Year one have been using number bonds to 10, adding and solving addition problems.  We continued with our Autumn theme in dance and worked together to create a firework dance.  Rhino Readers: Year R: Year 1:

A wonderful start to the year Class 3!

Image
Class 3 have had a wonderful start to the year. It has been lovely getting to know the new faces and watching all of the children grow. They have participated in and enjoyed an incredible amount   of learning so far, such as: exploring forces and magnets during science, perfecting their throwing and catching skills in PE, learning about Judaism in RE, becoming Ancient Greek experts during history while developing their writing, maths and reading skills! During open door tomorrow, please take pride in looking through the children’s books and seeing how hard they have worked! We look forward to what next half term has in store for us…   Well done Team Class 3!   Miss Baker

Forest School Friday

Image
Forest School Friday This week in Year 4's Forest School session, the children had a brilliant time exploring nature and were fascinated to find some newts under the logs. We talked about how lucky we are to have these animals in our Forest School site and the importance of keeping them safe and putting them back where we found them. Building dens was another activity which generated lots of excitement. The den builders all worked together brilliantly, sharing ideas and solving problems. We also had some conkers which we drilled and made into necklaces or threaded onto string for a game of 'conkers' with a friend. Some of the children used a flint and steel to make sparks and small fires. This required resilience and perseverance for all...as it's not as easy as it might look! We're all looking forward to more adventures next time. Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
