Reception Forest School

Forest School in the shade! The Reception children were fantastic this afternoon as we enjoyed the shade and breeze we were fortunate enough to have.  At the start, the children were challenged to ‘Get to know a tree.’  They chose a tree and spent some time using their senses to notice things that were special about their tree. The children were all able to talk about the feel, smell or look of their tree and many children said that was what they enjoyed the most from the session. After that, the children chose what they would like to do. Some relaxed and coloured on a blanket in the shade, others spent time with friends in the hammock. We had a tiny boat created and tested and lots of the children worked together to clear an area and make a mini river - complete with a bridge! Some children chose to make elder bead necklaces and showed brilliant concentration and determination when hollowing out the beads and threading them onto string. We also had an impromptu slide ma...

Year 6 Forest School

Relaxed Forest School Year 6 were excellent this morning at Forest School and spent the morning exploring, working together, having fun and making memories. We were fortunate enough to have the shade from the trees and a cooling breeze, so we could survive the heat. The children worked together to put up the hammock and then share it fairly so that everyone could enjoy some relaxation. It seems to be the place for great conversations with friends! We also had some whittling and clay work, which the children then turned into mementoes of their time at school, with fingerprints from the class in the clay and names written on the whittled stick. Some of the children also experimented with some oak gall ink or sketched with our home-made charcoal…I think we have a couple of budding Picassos in our midst! We finished by sharing what we had achieved including the idea that positive feelings can also be viewed as achievements. It was fantastic to hear what the children chose to share, in...

Class 2’s busy week

We have had a lovely week in Class 2, trying to stay cool while keeping our wonderful learning going! In English, we’ve been working hard on our explanation texts. We started by learning about the life cycle of different bugs, then used our imaginations to create our own bugs and write about their life cycles. We’ve also drawn some amazing pictures to go with our writing and have been focusing on using the key features of non-fiction texts – like titles, diagrams, and labelled illustrations. In Maths, we’ve continued learning about Time. We are building our confidence in telling the time to the hour, half past, quarter past, and quarter to. We’ve also been learning how many hours are in a day – a tricky but fun challenge! In Science, we’ve been exploring the stages of life for humans. This led to some very thoughtful and engaging conversations about how we grow and change, and what we can do at each stage of our lives. In PE, we wanted to move our bodies while being sensible in the hea...

From exploring the outdoors to trying new activities, it was a fantastic opportunity for learning, teamwork, and making special memories together. A huge thank you to all the adults who supported the trip, your time, energy, and care made it possible. We are so grateful for everything you did to ensure the children had such a positive experience. Well done to all the children for their brilliant behaviour, resilience, and positivity throughout the trip. You represented your school with pride and made everyone incredibly proud.
