Division, Dance and the Romans

Image
This week in Maths, we have been working hard on division, with the children practising this skill every day. We have been learning to master the presentation, method, and calculations involved in short division problems. The children understand that it takes time to fully master these methods and have shown great dedication and perseverance in developing their skills. In PE, the children have been working on a Dance unit. They have been using choreography to tell a story and exploring how to use space effectively to make their dances more impactful and expressive. In RE, we learned about the Hindu deity Ganesh and how he represents strength and wisdom. The children explored the different symbols associated with Ganesh and discussed what these means for Hindus. Finally, in History, we considered what made the Roman army so successful. The children have been really engaged and interested in this topic and are building a strong knowledge of the Roman invasion of Britain, including the...

Reception Class – Learning This Week 🌈 We’ve had another busy and exciting week in Reception, filled with lots of learning, creativity, and enthusiasm from the children. Here’s a little snapshot of what we’ve been getting up to in class. Phonics 🔤 This week in phonics, the children started Level 4 , where we began learning how to blend two consonants together in words. This is an important step in developing confident reading skills. We also spent time recapping Level 2 and Level 3 sounds to make sure everyone feels secure and ready to apply their knowledge when reading and writing. Spelling ✏️ Our focus spelling words this week were: I, the, to, no, go The children practised reading, writing, and using these words in simple sentences. Handwriting ✍️  In handwriting, we have been working on long ladder letters , helping the children develop correct letter formation and pencil control. Maths Magic! - Class 2 and Class 5

Maths Magic! -  Class 2 and Class 5  This week, our Class 5 pupils became game designers and teachers as they created fun and interactive games to help practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children worked in small groups to plan, design and build their own games, thinking carefully about how to make the rules clear, the challenges exciting and the learning meaningful. Once the games were ready, Class 5 had a very special job – supporting our Class 2 pupils as they explored the games and practised their counting sequences. The older children showed fantastic patience, kindness and leadership, explaining the rules clearly and encouraging their younger partners every step of the way. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they took on the role of teacher and role model. Class 2 pupils were equally impressive. They listened carefully, joined in enthusiastically and showed great determination as they counted forwards in 2s, 5s and 10s through play. Learning through ...

Muddy Boots and Toasty Treats

It was another muddy forest school session this week, but we were lucky as the sun came out and the rain stayed away. Once again, we enjoyed spending time in the forest and making the most of everything it had to offer. This week we cooked some delicious treats on the fire, including s’mores and toasted crumpets. The children carefully whittled sticks ready to hold their food over the fire and waited patiently and safely for their turn, showing great focus and responsibility. The rope swing was a big hit, as always, along with the ever-popular mud kitchen, where lots of imaginative play took place. Many of the children also worked together on their bug hotel, moving branches and other natural materials around the site to create and improve their build. It was lovely to see such teamwork and cooperation. We also talked about the importance of looking after our forest school area by picking up litter, tidying up properly after each session, and taking care of our resources so everyone...
