Year 5 and Well-being Forest School

Image
Fire and S’mores at Forest School Both groups had another fun-filled session today at Forest School. We started the session with some mindfulness in a nature spot or for Year 5 trying some tree- laxation. This allowed the children the opportunity to be still, quiet and notice what was around them. The tree-laxation exercise meant the children could experience a different perspective whilst lying under a tree and see what they noticed from their position.  During the session, all the children had the chance to make s’mores by toasting a marshmallow at the fire and sandwiching it between two chocolate biscuits. There was some excellent fire-lighting going on too, with some experimentation using tinder bundles and making and using char-cloth to light a fire from embers rather than a flame. There was some fantastic team-work today with a brilliant den being built. It involved lots of communication, trial and error and perseverance to create a spectacular den. There was also an im...

Class 2's busy week

Image
We have had another busy and fun week of learning in Class 2! 😄🎉 In English , we finished our letter writing unit by writing letters to another class. ✉️📝 We told them about our favourite memories of Class 2 so far and asked them about their learning in Class 3. The children brought all their letter writing skills together, and it was great fun remembering all our achievements and the exciting moments we've had this year.  In Maths , we have been learning about halves and quarters of shapes and objects. The children explored different ways to divide things equally and enjoyed lots of practical activities . In Art , the children continued to develop their skills with clay by making and decorating a tile. They used their hands to shape the clay and added patterns using tools and objects. The children worked really hard on their creations , and we also learned about different forms of sculpture . In PE today, we had lots of fun completing an obstacle course . 🏃‍♂️...

The pollination process in plants.

Image
The pollination process in plants. To conclude our Science unit on plants Class 3 have been busy learning all about how insects support plants during the pollination process. We acted out being bumble bees to help us remember how pollen is transmitted from the male parts of one plant across to the female parts of another.  We also drew and annotated scientific diagrams to show what the different parts of the plant did.

Well Done Year 6's! A huge  WELL DONE  to our incredible Year 6 pupils who have now completed their SATs! After months of hard work, early mornings, and determination, you've made it through, and we couldn’t be prouder. You've shown resilience, focus, and a positive attitude throughout - not just this week, but in all the preparation leading up to it. Now it’s time to take a breath, smile, and celebrate your achievements. SATs are just one part of your journey, but they’ve shown how committed and capable you are. Whether it was reading comprehension, tricky maths questions, or those spelling challenges, you tackled them head-on. We know each and every one of you gave it your all, and that’s what truly matters. A heartfelt thank you also goes to the amazing teachers and staff who supported Year 6 every step of the way. Outside Learning

Image
We have had a lovely week making the most of the sunshine. We took our learning outside and did lots of practical lessons. We continued to make observations of our beans and strawberry plants and took turns to water them. We learnt about the wild flowers and their parts. Year one also learnt about deciduous and evergreen trees.  Year one completed a plant work book each day and reception labelled parts of a plant. We had a mindfulness morning with activities such as moving and stretching/yoga, reading in our den, nature hunts, painting and printing with leaves, cloud gazing, daisy chains, mindfulness colouring and mindfulness breathing. Reception also learnt about shapes and patterns in maths and year one explored fractions by finding halves and quarters of shapes and quantities. In art we also learnt about tints and shades and looked at the work by Kandinsky. We then mixed our own colours  to create a Kandinsky swirl.
