Class 2's busy week

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Class 2! In Maths , we continued exploring 3D shapes , focusing on counting faces and comparing and sorting different shapes. The children are really enjoying this unit and are growing in confidence when naming the shapes. In English , the children have written up their wonderful stories about a lost hat . It has been a joy to read them, and it’s fantastic to see their enthusiasm for writing. They have been working so hard, and their creativity is shining through! In RE , we continued learning about Islam , deepening our understanding of the faith. The children speak respectfully, showing great curiosity and thoughtfulness in their discussions. Our Guided Reading sessions have taken us into the world of lions ! The children have been working brilliantly in pairs to retrieve information from the text, demonstrating great teamwork and comprehension skills. Number Fun

Class one have been singing lots of counting rhymes when learning about one more and one less. We used tens frames and counters and used them to represent numbers. Year one used number lines to count on and add. They also practised making doubles and enjoyed playing a doubling dice game with a partner.  In English the year one children practised using verbs and wrote a recount of Sam bear's day. Reception children practised writing the graphemes: ow and oi and wrote simple sentences with a capital letter and full stop.  In R.E we considered baptism and in History the children continued to think about toys from the past and made comparisons between old and modern toys.

Class 4's Great Week

Class 4's Great Week This week, Class 4 had an amazing time! We wrote and published balanced debates, presenting strong arguments on both sides. In maths, we mastered dividing 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers with confidence. Science was exciting as we explored friction using Newton metres to measure forces. A fantastic week of learning! Writing Class 4 has finally published their well-structured debates on whether children should wear school uniforms! With beautifully presented arguments, stunning handwriting, and a real sense of pride in their work, their discussions showcase both sides of the argument. A fantastic display of reasoning and writing skills—well done, Class 4! 🎉 Maths Class 4 has been mastering division, tackling 4-digit numbers divided by 1-digit numbers—both with and without remainders! The real challenge came when converting remainders into decimals, but with determination and hard work, they conquered it. A fantastic effort in building confidence with numbers...

Class 4 Homework

Image
Class 4 Homework Spellings Each week Class 4 will have a new set of 10 spellings that will be posted on the blog. Please support your child with learning these over the week. Thank you. This week's spelling pattern is word families based on common words, showing how words are related in form and meaning. Maths Each week there will be Maths homework assigned to the children on Maths.co.uk. The pupils have all received their log in details, but if there are any problems or your child has lost their log in details please speak to Miss Barber. These are short and focused quizzes to support the pupils across all areas in Maths.  With the new updates to Maths.co.uk, I am now able to set two separate objectives (a year 5 objective and a year 6 objective). This should now be able to support their progression according to their age. Please complete by the end of the week. Thank you. Have a lovely week! Mrs Campbell :)

Year 1 Forest School

Image
Year 1 Forest School We were very lucky that there was a lull in the high winds forecast this afternoon so we could get out for our Forest School session. The children loved our starter game of Giant Rock, Paper, Scissors, and quickly realised the importance of listening and remembering which action they had decided in their group. The children then chose their activities with the usual enthusiasm and desire to challenge themselves. They had lots of fun on the rope walk, rope swing and using the rope ladder to climb the tree. We also had more delicious feasts being concocted in the mud kitchen.  Some of the children decided to make a den together. This involved huge amounts of perseverance, problem solving, teamwork and communication as they worked together to improve and adapt it. The end product was brilliant and they all enjoyed sitting inside and testing how waterproof it was. Round the log circle, some of the children chose to use elder to make elder beads or used the pr...

'Talk PANTS' information for parents/carers of class one

Image
Dear parents/carers of class one, This half term the children will be discussing the NSPCC's Talk PANTS rules  in our PSHE lessons. During these discussions we will aim to teach our children the following important safety skills without giving explicit information or without telling scary stories. These are the PANTS rules: P: Privates are private. A: Always remember your body belongs to you. N: No means no. T: Talk about secrets that upset you. S: Speak up, someone can help. The lessons empower children, in an age-appropriate way, to recognise their rights to their own bodies, say no to touch that is unwanted, and tell someone if they feel uncomfortable. The lessons include activities which help children understand: Appropriate and inappropriate touch. Their right to say no to things that make them feel upset or uncomfortable. The names for parts of the body. Who to turn to if they ever feel upset or worried If you would like to know more about the NSPCC's campaign, includi...

Class 2's wonderful week

What a wonderful and busy week we’ve had in Class 2! The children have shown excellent focus and a real eagerness to learn across all subjects. Here's a look at what we've been up to: Maths This week, we began our new unit on Shape. We explored both 2D and 3D shapes, and it was fantastic to see how much the children remembered from Year 1! Together, we counted sides and vertices, and even looked for vertical lines of symmetry. The children showed great enthusiasm and accuracy in their work. English In English, we continued developing our story-writing skills. Building on what we've learned so far, the children are now planning their own stories, using their imaginations and creativity to bring their ideas to life. Science Our Science lessons focused on bulbs and seeds. We explored the differences between them, and the children were fascinated too look at the seeds and bulbs and compare them. RE In RE, we revisited our learning about Hinduism. The children impressed us with ...

World Religion Day

Image
World Religion Day - Collective Worship At Tolleshunt D'Arcy Primary School, we celebrated World Religion Day by creating artefacts to honor different religions. Class 1 made Purim masks to celebrate Judaism, while Class 2 designed beautiful Rangoli patterns for Hinduism. Class 3 crafted Ramadan lanterns, symbolising Islam. Class 4 reflected on the meaning of World Religion Day, highlighting how it fosters respect, loyalty, and compassion among all, regardless of faith. This celebration reminded us of the beauty of diversity and the importance of unity in our global community. A meaningful week for the classes of learning, creativity, and connection for everyone involved topped off with a wonderful Collective Worship. 🌍✨ Well done D'Arcy!
