Class 3 Homework

I have been completely wowed by the standard of creative homework that the children have been bringing into school. It has definitely been something that they should feel extremely proud of!  It is also important that the children practice their times tables and read to an adult every day. Reading logs will now be checked on Wednesday instead of a Thursday so please ensure that these are brought into school on this day although everyday would be preferred. If you have misplaced your child's TT Rockstar's login details, please let me know and I will send a new one home for them.  Below is a reminder of Class 3 homework expectations: Class 3 Homework Expectations 1.     Spelling: Every week, you will be given 10 spellings to learn which are linked to our spelling teaching for that week. You will be tested on the spelling that you have learnt every Friday. 2.     Creative Homework: Every half term, you will be given a list of activities...

Lots of learning in Class 4

Image
This week in Class 4, we have been working hard to develop our skills in writing a persuasive speech. The children have been learning how to convince others to believe in their argument by using persuasive language and key features to clearly express their opinions. Next week, they will choose their own topic and begin writing a persuasive speech of their own – we can’t wait to hear their ideas! In Science , we continued our learning on animals and their habitats by moving on to classification. The children learned how to use Venn diagrams to group animals according to their characteristics or habitats. In History , we have been exploring the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. The children identified the changes that humans went through during these times and how life developed across the different periods. In PE , we continued our dance and dodgeball units. The children created beautiful solo dances, showing both skill and creativity. Outside, we practised our jumping ...

Recycling Week with The Holy Council

Image
Recycling Week with The Holy Council This week at Darcy we have been celebrating Recycling Week with a special project. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated old bottle lids, jars, and buttons – your generosity made a real difference. With your support, we were able to reuse these items creatively and design a brand-new cross to display proudly in our hall. A huge thank you also goes to the Holy Council for working alongside us, using hot glue and plenty of colourful buttons to bring the design to life. Together, we showed how recycling can create something both meaningful and beautiful for our community. Mrs Campbell 😊

A great week for Class 2

Image
We have worked hard in class 2 this week. In maths, the children have been learning about greater than and less than. They learned that the sign for greater than and less than looks just like a crocodile's mouth ready to eat the greater number. The children really enjoyed using their 'crocodile mouth' to help them solve the maths questions. We have also been learning to use a new piece of maths equipment called a rekenrek, which looks a bit like an abacus.  In English, we have started to read our new book called 'How to Make Friends With a Ghost', which is a funny story that gives instructions about caring for a ghost in your house. The children have loved hearing about the disgusting things that ghosts like to eat and cheeky places that they like to hide. The children have created their own ghost fact file to help them with their writing next week. Have a lovely weekend!

The children were amazed as we tried to make rainbows together, and we even experimented with making some of our very own snow! Forest School Adventures 🌿

The children had a wonderful time in Forest School today! Once again, it was a pleasure to see them enjoying the outdoor spaces, playing, and exploring together. Along with the ever-popular mud kitchen, tree climbing, leaf collecting, bird spotting, and bug hunting, today we also made conker caterpillars ! 🐛 The children loved this activity – they carefully threaded string through holes in the conkers, developing their fine motor skills, and then added their own creative touches by drawing little faces on their caterpillars. It was so lovely to see the children being kind and helpful to one another. They are growing in confidence, showing curiosity, and supporting their friends and peers in their learning and play.

Class 2's blog

We have had a fun and busy week in class 2. We have continued working on our numbers up to 20 and have started to use number lines to help us. The children have been able to fill in missing numbers and find 1 more and 1 less than a given number.  In English, we have started to learn about writing instructions.  The children were all given instructions on how to draw a cat which led to some interesting results! The children then took turns to give instructions to a partner - they listened well and really enjoyed the activity.  We have also been learning a catchy new song about thankfulness so I expect you will hear the song being sung over the weekend. Finally, we took advantage of the beautiful weather today during our PE lesson. The children loved the introduction to rounders and worked hard to hit the ball and make 'runs'.  Have a lovely weekend, everybody!

Whatever the weather

We’ve had a fantastic week in Reception, filled with lots of exciting learning and new discoveries! Phonics This week we began our phonics journey and learned to recognise the sounds s, a, t, p . The children practised blending these sounds to read simple words such as at, sat, pat, tap, and sap . They were very proud of their reading and are beginning to feel like real readers already! We will send out the log in details to access the online Rhino Reader e-books next week.  Maths In maths, we focused on counting to 5. We practised saying the numbers in order and counted lots of different objects around the classroom. The children also worked on recognising numerals and matching them to quantities. Science Our science learning was all about the seasons and weather . The children explored how rain is made and even created their own raindrops. They also had fun making colourful windsocks to see how the wind blows. Spanish This week we began learning Spanish! The child...
